Though their reason for awakening is unknown (it is possible they sensed the massive change in magical currents caused by the Guildpact's demise, or that Augustin or Szadek awoke them for their own purposes), the disfigured monsters stomped across Ravnica, growing in size as they went. Two were defeated by the Izzet parun Niv-Mizzet, but the remaining three, after they caused Niv-Mizzet to leave, penetrated deep into the centre of Ravnica City. After causing much destruction, they were eventually destroyed. (Card: Glint-eye Nephilim

Nervan

Nevinyrral

Lich, necromancer. Author of the Necromancer’s Handbook, creator of the dreaded Nevinyrral's Disk. While today Urborg is the name of a large tropical isle and its satellites, legend has it that Urborg was once only the name of a city upon the isle. This hellish demesne was controlled by Nevinyrral, who was at war with Bogardan. Little is known of the war, as it predates the Ice Age, but legend states that Nevinyrral was outmaneuvered and the city of Urborg was swallowed by a volcano that tore up from the ground directly beneath it. Nevinyrral’s last act was to use his famous disk to deny his enemies any of the magical trove that might survive the flames. (Nevinyrral's Disk, Drudge Skeletons, Magus of the Disk)

Nevinyrral is the name of Larry Niven spelled backwards, and was named this way as Nevinyrral's Disk is similar in concept and execution to the Warlock's Wheel in The Magic Goes Away.

Nicol Bolas

A legendary Elder Dragon. He ignited his planeswalker-spark when a powerful world spell cast all other dragons to the land, creating the elder land wurms. Despite not being the only planeswalker of the elder dragons, he was the only one to come to full fruition. He is said to be the only Elder Dragon to have survived the years after the end of the Elder Dragon Wars. He settled on the Madaran empire and, after slaying its god-queen, styled himself the god-king of Madara. His cruel regime ended when his former champion, the warrior-mage Tetsuo Umezawa defied him and his chosen regent, Ramses Overdark. When Tetsuo escaped to a meditation plane, Nicol Bolas easily followed by projecting his astral self. There, a titanic battle followed, until Tetsuo's contingency plan struck; a massive meteor strike on Nicol Bolas's physical body and shrine shook the elder dragon. As the elder dragon prepared to retaliate, Tetsuo revealed himself to be more powerful than the elder dragon and Nicol Bolas was defeated by the human warrior-mage.

He remained trapped in meditation plane but was able to communicate mentally with beings in Madara. His home was overrun by cat-dragons and their followers. He was eventually returned to Dominaria by the desires of an artificer named Venser to return to his lab in Urborg, when mentally communicating with him, under the name Sensei Ryu from the meditation plane. Upon his release he defeated Venser's patron, the planeswalker Teferi, and shortly afterward vowed to destroy all those of the family, Umezawa, past and present, and the spirit that brought the Umezawa family to Madara.

Bolas reappears in Future Sight, where he returns to Madara after his battle with the Myojin of Night's Reach. There, encounters the planeswalker Leshrac. The dark planeswalker announces his plan to defeat and feed upon Bolas' power, and the two battle. The dragon is weakened as Leshrac employs a mask given to him by the spirit of Night's Reach, but fails to drain Bolas of his power. The dragon is immune to the mask's effects, as he possesses the original, which he took from the Myojin after defeating her. Bolas uses the original mask to imprison Leshrac, then uses it to seal the rift over Madara. Finally Nicol Bolas departs from Dominaria to Alara, finding it already sundered into five shards. Basing himself in the black-aligned shard of Grixis, he anticipates the Conflux of the five shards into one, and conspires to assert his dominance over the other four. When Tezzeret's spark ignited, Bolas found him and manipulated him into the organization called the Infinite Cosortium, but Tezzeret usurps the organization and earns a permanent enemy in Bolas. Bolas makes a deal with Lilliana Vess and Jace Beleren to aid them against Tezzeret, but ultimately goes back on his end of the bargain since the results were not exactly as he would like. Following the Conflux he unleashed the zombie lord Thraximundar onto Naya and Bant, removed Elspeth from Alara, and began weakening the other shards by eliminating any settlement that was protected. But when the shards merged and Bolas absorbed the powers of the Maelstrom; Ajani, a leonin of Naya whose spark had ignited, confronts him. Ajani throws himself into the remaining power of the Maelstrom. He uses his new power to sever Bolas' connection with the Mana of Alara, and then projects an image of the elder Dragon. The dragon and his image battle, and both disappear in a brilliant flash.

In the "Enter the Eldrazi" webcomic, Nicol Bolas is revealed to have manipulated other planeswalkers to release the Eldrazi from Zendikar, though it is not clear to what end.

He appeared in the Chronicles and Legends set, and then was Timeshifted in the Time Spiral block (Card: Nicol Bolas). Nicol Bolas is a Mythic Rare planeswalker in the Conflux set. (Card: Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker).

Nighteyes

A legendary Rat Wizard on Kamigawa (Card: Nighteyes the Desecrator)

Nireya

Someone who discovered a planar gate (Card: Planar Gate)

Nissa Revane

Nissa Revane wields green magic to muster her people and amplify their might. But recently she has begun using black mana covertly, believing it a necessary means to move the elves toward their rightful place.

The sternly beautiful Nissa Revane is a proud and ruthless nature-mage. She seeks to prove that her people, the elves, are the true heirs and best stewards of the planes of the Multiverse. Nissa prefers deeds to words, though, and she has become a master summoner of her elvish allies so their blades and arrows can do the talking.

Nissa hails from Zendikar, where her own race fights for survival against an increasingly savage ecosystem. The elves of Zendikar span many of its continents, and Nissa leads a large tribe known as the Joraga. Weakness is a luxury no one can afford on this fierce plane, and as a result Nissa despises weakness in others.

Her planar travels have taken her to other places where elves thrive or even rule, such as the sunny world of Lorwyn. There she met elves who fully embraced their role as the pinnacle of nature, using both life magic and its shadow to assert their primacy. This encounter led Nissa to experiment with black mana on her own terms, in secret, using it to complement her own elvish teachings.

And Nissa will need all the magic at her disposal to protect her elves. Zendikar is growing stranger and more hostile to its inhabitants. Nissa's quest for elvish domination of the plane will be set aside as she and her tribe fight harder and harder simply to survive in Zendikar's violent terrain.(Zendikar)

Nissa traveled with Sorin Markov during the Zendikar Story Arc to aid in the confinement of the Eldrazi, but failed, leading to the release of the three great Eldrazi.

Niszka

A Selesnya Evangel on Ravnica. (Card: Hour of Reckoning)

Nivea

Ixidor's wife and pit-fighting ally. She was killed by Jeska, Kamahl's sister who was later transformed into Phage, the Untouchable. When Ixidor discovered his ability to shape reality, he created Akroma in Nivea's image. Ixidor discovered the remains of her spirits in the belly of a Deathwurm during a battle with Phage, the Untouchable

Niv-Mizzet

The Firemind. A 15,000+ year old dragon who is both founder and leader of the Izzet (the blue and red guild of Ravnica). He has an unmatched intellect, but also an unmatched temper. He is incredibly vain, naming many of the Izzet's creations after himself, such as the guild itself (Izzet), their guildhall (Nivix), those guildmembers that aspire to be like dragons (Dragonauts), and a strong, light type of metal the guild invented, which is called Mizzium (even the Izzet guild symbol is a stylised dragon wearing a crown). During the Ravnica block storyline, Niv-Mizzet is plotted against by one of his magelords, Zomaj Hauc. Hauc attempted to hatch three dragon eggs, planning to lead these three new dragons in a coup against Niv-Mizzet. This sets off a chain of events which leads to the awakening of ancient deities known as the Nephilim. Realizing the danger to the city, Niv-Mizzet goes to deal with them personally (his first public appearance in over 2500 years) and slays two of them. After that, he mysteriously "gets bored" and flees when the battle begins to turn against him. His whereabouts are currently unknown. A theory holds him as having left Ravnica entirely, indicating that he is a planeswalker. This theory is confirmed in the Xbox 360 game, so it makes him the third oldest behind Nicol Bolas and Sorin Markov. (Ravnica) (Card: Niv-Mizzet, The Firemind)
